Advanced Energy Introduces Customizable High-Current Power Control Solution with Liquid Cooling

The Thyro-PX® Modular Solution’s high precision silicon-controlled rectifier technology enables direct power control system configuration and simplifies shift from gas furnaces

DENVER, Colo., March 13, 2025 — Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEIS) – a global leader in highly engineered, precision power conversion, measurement and control solutions – announced its Thyro-PX® Modular Solution, a fully configurable, distributed architecture that enables operators to build custom power control with liquid-cooled high-power stacks and external control units to meet their precise needs. 

The components are designed to meet the requirements of glass manufacturing, arc furnaces, rectifiers, and other high-current heating elements. Configuration options include separating control and power functions to minimize EMC issues. 
Thyro-PX's silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) technology optimally controls temperature and power. It offers precise phase angle control and improved efficiency, while reducing costs and CO2 emissions compared to standard thyristors.

“Thyro-PX Modular Solution is built on proven SCR technology and offers unparalleled flexibility in high current applications to simplify switching from gas-fired systems to cleaner electrically generated heat,” said Dhaval Dhayatkar, Advanced Energy’s vice president, Critical Sensing and Control Products, System Power. “Thyro-PX provides the components customers need to quickly configure and build high-efficiency, high-current, liquid-cooled power stacks to their exact specifications – reducing installation complexity, cost and the overall system footprint.”

Each Thyro-PX control unit can drive up to three high-power water-cooled Thyro-PX stacks, increasing current delivery capability. The Thyro-PX Modular Solution easily integrates with common field bus systems, achieving a current accuracy of 0.5%, with simple AC and DC configurations and a wide voltage range of up to 690 VAC (750 VDC), with 1,000 VAC available on demand. 

Communication between the control and power stacks is managed via an optional fiber optic trigger interface card for precise isolation between the control and power sections. Additional components in the Thyro-PX Modular Solution include voltage transducers as well as impulse converter and releasing modules.
