***NEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT***
Fast Response Hypodermic Temperature Probe

Geneva, Ohio —TEGAM, Inc., experts and innovators in temperature measurement, asked the question, “What does ‘Fast Response’ mean for a thermometer temperature probe?” We then answered that question with the arrival of our new, fast-response temperature probe for various industrial applications.

As Dan Jackson, Thermometry product manager at TEGAM, explains the necessity and significance of a fast-response probe. “For someone measuring a pot of water being brought to a boil in their kitchen, fast response might mean 1 minute. For an employee measuring a cooked piece of meat coming out of an oven on a moving conveyor belt in a production facility, however, fast response means something quite different. This has the potential to affect not just their work but the quality and safety of the finished food product for consumers.”

“If a worker is measuring food on a moving conveyor belt, the typical belt speed is 65 ft/minute (walking speed). The individual needs to walk with a standard probe in the food for 7.5 feet to get a valid reading,” Jackson reveals. “Doing this all day can wear out a pair of shoes as well as knees very quickly”. “TEGAM’s Fast-Response temperature probe enables the measurement to be made in under 3 seconds, which reduces the distance to less than 3 feet.

What goes into building a fast-response temperature probe? It’s actually what DOES NOT go into it, that makes the difference. Less is more. To get fast response and good thermal conductivity, minimal mass is required, whereas more durability typically requires more mass. The TEGAM fast response temperature probe (Model # 9T797MTCPVC36) uses a small diameter, high-strength stainless steel tube inside a larger housing tube to give it the durability needed and yet still provide low mass at the measuring tip. The tip is 0.067” while the shaft is 0.125”. TEGAM can manufacture this style of probe with the tip as small as 0.040”. The smaller the tip, the faster the response time.

For industries needing fast response and durability, such as food processing, check-out the TEGAM fast-response temperature sensor. We also recommend Type T thermocouples for the fast-response probe because they have twice the accuracy of a type K thermocouple.
