Dynamic Reverse Pulsing – What About the Anode?
12월 04, 2023
By Gayatri Rane
A previous AE blog, Dynamic Reverse Pulsing – What About Duty Cycle?, discussed reactive sputter deposition of insulating thin films in large-area coaters, describing the benefits of using the Dynamic Reverse Pulse (DRP) power-delivery mode over the bipolar (BP) mode of dual magnetron sputtering. In DRP mode , dual targets are bipolar pulsed against an explicit anode and the duty cycle can be varied so that the polarity is positive on the target for a shorter time during pulsing. This allows clearing of charge build-up on the targets. In our studies, DRP mode showed increased deposition rate and reduced substrate temperature when compared to similar depositions with the BP mode.

CT Imaging: Navigating the Complex Power Needs of Current and Next Generation CT Systems
10월 09, 2023
Computed Tomography (CT) is a computerized imaging technique used in radiology. A rapidly rotating X-ray beam and detector are used to generate cross-sectional images – so-called slices – that form the volumetric and very detailed internal image of the body.

Spotlight on Ion Implantation and Rapid Thermal Processing Solutions from Advanced Energy
3월 27, 2019
Back-end-of-the-line semiconductor fabrication processes, in which lithography and multi-pattern etching is executed, might get a lot of attention, but it’s the front-end-of-the-line processing that sets the foundation for success.

Newly Revised SEMI E135 Standard Helps Semiconductor Fabrication Plants Select the Best RF Generator for Their Application
3월 19, 2019
By Don van Zyl
I recently was part of a group brought together by SEMI to redefine SEMI E135, the standard applied to test methods for determining the transient response of a radio frequency (RF) generator used in RF power delivery systems for semiconductor processing equipment.

What Exactly is Cold Junction Compensation? How Does It Relate to the Use of Thermocouples as Temperature Sensors?
3월 14, 2019
By Dan Jackson
I was recently asked, “What does Cold Junction Compensation do?” This question requires that I summarize how thermocouples work and the physics behind them.

Five Ways the Enterprise Can Encourage Women in the Workforce
3월 08, 2019
By Cindy Pitrat
Happy International Women’s Day 2019! As the global community takes a moment to celebrate women and reflect on our achievements (a personal shout out to retired Colorado Supreme Court Justice Nancy Rice and US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for inspiring me), I think we can all agree that there is still more to do.
