Taking the Temperature of Innovation
11월 04, 2024
By Tim Dubbs
Many industrial manufacturing processes require monitoring and control of temperature at key points in the operation to ensure the highest product quality, maximum throughput and optimized yield. To meet these demands, innovations are driving new precise and reliable thermal measurement solutions. Traditional technologies such as thermocouples and thermistors are giving way to more sophisticated optical techniques that deliver improved reliability and repeatability needed by modern thermal processes. This has led to the growing use of fiber optic sensors that are immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI) common in industrial environments, and non-contact pyrometers that measure precise thermal radiation.

Reducing RAN Running Costs with Advanced DC-DC Technologies
10월 08, 2024
By Andy Brown
The reliability issue is a significant pain point because a so-called “truck roll” (a visit by a service technician to the base station to repair or replace a component, circuit board or other assembly) is a costly last resort that service providers want to avoid. Unplanned downtime and maintenance costs can mount very quickly, reaching many hundreds of times the cost of any specific part or system that has failed.

How Digital Transformation Helps Customers Accelerate Design and Time-to-Market
7월 18, 2024
Engineers and purchasers face reduce time-to-market pressure by developing products rapidly and with high quality. This pressure drives suppliers to evolve beyond simply providing products and offer world-class multi-channel support. In today's digital world, where the internet makes information readily available, customers expect much of that support to come from digital or online resources.

Dynamic Reverse Pulsing – What About the Anode?
12월 04, 2023
By Gayatri Rane
A previous AE blog, Dynamic Reverse Pulsing – What About Duty Cycle?, discussed reactive sputter deposition of insulating thin films in large-area coaters, describing the benefits of using the Dynamic Reverse Pulse (DRP) power-delivery mode over the bipolar (BP) mode of dual magnetron sputtering. In DRP mode , dual targets are bipolar pulsed against an explicit anode and the duty cycle can be varied so that the polarity is positive on the target for a shorter time during pulsing. This allows clearing of charge build-up on the targets. In our studies, DRP mode showed increased deposition rate and reduced substrate temperature when compared to similar depositions with the BP mode.

Powering Electrosurgery: Precise Control and Delivery of RF Energy
10월 23, 2023
By Todd Huston
Medical applications have made use of radio frequency (RF) energy in the form of electromagnetic waves or electrical currents for over 125 years. The ability to transect and seal vessels and tissue effectively and safely, for example, is a critical surgical task with RF-based techniques being the gold standard for cutting and cauterizing.

Dynamic Reverse Pulsing – What About Duty Cycle?
10월 16, 2023
By Gayatri Rane
A previous blog showed that Dynamic Reverse Pulsing (DRP) mode offers several benefits to reactive sputtering of SiO2 through the reduction of substrate heat load by about 12% and delivered a 10% increase in deposition rate when compared to conventional bipolar pulsed (BP) dual-magnetron sputtering. DRP mode halves the power applied to each magnetron and shares the pulsing with an explicit anode,
